The ILA Workshop:

Handmade in Texas

The ILA Workshop:

The collection was launched in 2007 and was quickly selected by Saks Fifth Avenue, Moda Operandi, Catbird, and ABC Carpet and Home amongst other international retailers. The designers trace their roots in jewelry back to their ancestral homeland in the north western deserts of India. Their homeland is a place enchanted by history, mysticism and beauty and is where the edifices of their family lineage still stand today. Each edifice was carved with the most skilled hand; to tell stories of mythology of the land. Through their trips back to India it was these stories that continue to inspire their collections.

From an early age Vikas developed a fascination with the balance of simplicity and purpose in design. With an engineering degree from MIT, Vikas nurtured a nonconformist approach that merges fashion, engineering, and design. Ila tempers Vikas' approach with beauty and softness that was instilled by their mother an FIT graduate of textile design, and by her 8 years of experience designing high end bridal jewelry.

From the outset we started ILA knowing that we would never outsource our craftsmanship. It took years to build our process and our workshop, but it is where we love to be. By having the design and craftsmanship under the same roof we are able to ensure our visions are meticulously executed.

By handcrafting everything in our workshop we control the precious materials that we craft our jewelry from. ILA uses recycled precious metals certified by the The Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative and by the SCS Recycled Content Standard V6-0. We also use our client’s unused jewelry, up-cycling the gold and circumventing any mining processes for the precious metals.

Our Workshop

We source our gold chain, wire, findings and castings from vendors who are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of their work. We use a New York City caster who is a leader in using all recycled metals and clean, electric equipment. Most of our vendors purchase either third-party certified recycled metal or fairmined metal and then make their own alloys to control the process and minimize the number of middle-men in the supply chain. Catbird is a certified member of No Dirty Gold, an international campaign to clean up the industry.
