With proper care, emerald jewelry can be quite durable even for everyday wear. To clean emeralds, gently scrub them with warm, soapy water and a soft toothbrush. Make sure to scrub gently, and remember to cover the sink with a soft rubber padding in case your jewelry slips from your hand. Use a lint-free cloth after to pat the emerald dry. Perform this cleaning method to remove all the dirt and bring it back to its original beauty.

Whenever your emeralds begin to look dull, a safe way to bring back their luster is by placing  a tiny drop of cedar or baby oil on a q-tip and rubbing it across the surfaces of the emerald for a few minutes. You can clean the remaining oil on the surface with a lint-free cloth.

Finally, always handle emeralds with care. Avoid wearing them while doing household chores and strenuous tasks to protect them from unexpected blows. Store your emerald jewelry in a soft pouch individually or in a padded jewelry case with separate compartments. Always keep them away from other jewelry to avoid scratches.

ILA gemologists have stringent standards for the emeralds that they source.  The color will vary in tone based on the design but typically falls into the forest green hues. Emeralds have natural inclusions which are a part of the natural beauty of the mineral and are oiled to ensure their vibrance. Most emeralds, including all of ILA's emeralds, are heat treated unless otherwise specified. No other treatments are applied to our Emeralds.

A majority of our sapphires originate in Sri Lanka where the government has the most control over gemstone regulation. The government tightly regulates that sapphires be mined by family owned businesses or small companies. Sri Lanka favors small operations over large companies and automated machinery.

Sapphires are one of the hardest gems behind diamonds with a 9 on the hardness scale. This makes sapphires ideal for rings and for jewelry that is worn daily.
