The shape of the diamond can also affect the appearance of color in a diamond. Round brilliant diamonds are considered the best for masking the appearance of a lower color grade. A well-proportioned round brilliant cut diamond will produce great sparkle which helps to make the body color less noticeable.

 

Fancy shapes, shapes other than round, especially step cut stones such as emerald cut and asscher cut, have broader facet arrangements and create a sheen effect like a mirror instead of sparkling. Thus, they tend to show off more color. Other fancy shapes like marquise and pear shaped diamonds also tend to show more color near the pointed ends. So when it comes to fancy shapes, we recommend to pick a higher grade than what you would pick for a round brilliant cut diamond.
